A former commissioner for Power and Energy in the James Ibori
administration in Delta State, Emmanuel Imonena, was this afternoon
kidnapped on the Benin-Asaba Express Road in an incident in which his orderly and a
member of the kidnapping gang were killed.
Mr. Imonena, a Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the
state was also a member of the House of Assembly, representing Ethiope
West constituency.
Details of the kidnapping were still sketchy at the time of filing
this report, but our correspondent learnt that during the incident an
orderly to the former commissioner who posed serious resistance shot
dead a member of the gang while another member of the gang retaliated
and killed the orderly before Mr. Imonena was taken away to an unknown
destination.
Our correspondent learnt that Oghara, Imonena’s hometown, has been thrown into sorrow following reports of the kidnapping.
