Football legends, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Ghana’s Abedi
Pele and Abdullahi Traore are among the ex-players who are billed to
play an exhibition match against former Super Eagles players to kick
cancer out of Nigeria.
Disclosing this at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, Chairman of
the technical sub-committee of the soccer event, Jacob Onu said the
novelty match would hold in Abuja in the first week of December this
year.
The match, tagged “soccer legends against cancer”, has received the
blessing of both local and international partners, including the federal
ministry of health, the Nigeria Football Federation, US African Chamber
of Commerce, NEPAD Business Group and Mary Onyali Foundation among
others.
While expressing confidence for the success of the event, Onu assured
that all the foreign ex-internationals invited have agreed to honour
the invitation.
At the briefing, the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on
Sports, Godfrey Gaiya; Chairman of the event’s organising committee
Prof. Durosinmi-Etti and representatives of other partners spoke on the
need for collaboration to eliminate cancer from the country.
