Principal in trouble for conducting virginity test on secondary school pupils in Ogun State
A secondary school principal in Ogun state, Nigeria, has been
dragged to the police by parents of pupils in her school for carrying
out virginity tests on their children without their permission.
Last week, students of Ajuwon High School near Akute, went on the
streets to protest after their principal forced them to do virginity
test in her office
Most of the pupils who spoke on the issue said their
principal, Mrs Aladeojebi accused most of the pupils of promiscuity. She
later forced them to her office conducting the virginity test using her
hand. One of the pupils accused her of using her hand to puncture her
‘honey pot’.
The student who is in senior secondary school class 1 burst into tears
and decided to inform her parents. Other parents were also informed and
the matter was reported at Ajuwon police station.
The principal was said to have told the police that she invited a nurse
to conduct the test and egg was used and not hand. “It is totally
unacceptable for a school principal to conduct virgin test. Is that part
of the school syllabus or was it ratified by the Ogun state government?”
one of the witnesses asked rhetorically.
Effort to get an officer statement from the police proved abortive but a
source confirmed the incident. Some of the parents disclosed that the
matter is a national issue. The governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle
Amosu and President Goodluck Jonathan should be informed because it is
sexual abuse to the girl child.
One of the pupils said they are tired of the principal and something
must be done to call her to order. Another one said that they
have been warned not to speak to the press about the matter.
The matter is still with the police but many of the parents feared the
issue would have been swept under the carpet. The Ogun state government
should wade into the matter.
