Drama as accused appears naked in court

The wheels of justice grinds slowly in Nigeria

The incident happened in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Fatai Oduola, 63, arraigned on Tuesday before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obstructing the course of justice appeared naked in the dock.
Prosecutor Foluke Adedosu told the court that Mr. Oduola on November 16, 2012, stood as a surety in a case involving one Olumide Adigun.
She further explained that since the disappearance of the principal accused person on November 29, 2012, Mr. Oduola disappeared and was only arrested on Monday.
Mr. Oduola, however, created an oddity in court when he appeared half naked, wearing only his shirt to the dock, thus exposing his private part.
The prosecutor said the offence for which he was arraigned contravened Sections 126 of the Criminal Code and Section 137 of the Criminal Procedural Acts, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of preventing the course of justice and failure to produce the principal accused person.
Chief Magistrate Adams Adeshina said that the accused was “feigning insanity’’ by his actions. He, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case to February 25 for definite hearing.
