Nigerians will watch AFCON final on local TV stations
The Chairman of BON, Abubakar Jijiwa, confirmed this in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES. He promised to provide details later.
Though details are still unclear, the BON has had an agreement with the Confederation of African Football and Broadcast Rights owners of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2013.
A disagreement over the amount to be paid by Nigeria for the broadcast rights is the reason millions of Nigerians have not been able to watch the Nations Cup in their homes and offices. Only few who have DSTV satellite stations have been able to, while many also go to viewing centres where they pay a token to watch the matches.
The agreement will see tens of millions of Nigerians watch the final match of the competition between Nigeria and Burkina Faso in their homes on local television stations for the first time since the competition started.
The Super Eagles have gradually improved in the course of the competition eliminating tournament favourites, Cote d’ Ivoire in the quarter final. They also defeated Mali in the semi final to qualify for their first Nations Cup final in about a decade.
