Woman arrested for ‘smashing’ baby’s head

A middle age woman simply identified as Madam Ajayi was arrested by the men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly killing a nine-month old boy.
The incident occurred in Iju in Akure North Local Government Area on Tuesday afternoon when the suspect dashed into the room of the baby’s parents and smashed a bottle on his head.
It was gathered that the baby, Toluwalase Fadahunsi, was left by her mother, Mrs. Iyabo Fadahunsi, in the bedroom to do some domestic chores at the backyard.
The suspect was said to have sneaked into the room after noticing the boy’s mother was busy and smashed his head with a bottle.
The mother, who was attracted by the baby’s cry, dashed into the room to find out what had happened.
On getting to the room, she was shocked to have found the baby’s head smashed.
Neighbours, however, descended on the suspect following the alarm raised by the baby’s mother.
It took the intervention of some good Samaritans to rescue the suspect from being lynched.
Effort to treat the baby failed as he was confirmed dead at the hospital.
The Samaritans later handed the suspect to the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident and added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
