Etisalat made its position known yesterday over the role played by
former brand ambassador, Hafiz Oyetoro in the mobile number portability
initiative advert released by its rival, MTN Nigeria.
Steve Evans, the company’s Chief Executive Officer who spoke with
newsmen on the issue said Oyetoro made a mistake by moving across to its
telecommunications rival adding that they are willing to welcome him
back.
He
reportedly
said, “Saka made a terrible mistake, we believe he is on a break and we
are ready to welcome him back at anytime if he wants to come back.”
Evans said the MNP is a good initiative by the Nigerian
Communications Commission (NCC) which will drive healthy competition
among industry operators
He said, “MNP is not meant for every subscriber because more than
50 per cent of Nigerian telecoms consumers have one or more SIM cards.
“For those who have had their numbers for long time, it gives them
the opportunity to choose a better network without losing their original
number.”
