Tukur Survives Removal Plot As PDP NEC Passes Vote Of Confidence On Jonathan

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Thursday survived the plot to remove him from office as a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) passed a vote of confidence in him as well as President Goodluck Jonathan.

At the meeting, several officials tendered their resignation while new ones were appointed with former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, replacing Sam Jaja as the party’s deputy national chairman and Tony Okereke taking the place of Olisa Metuh as National Publicity Secretary.
Also, former Aviation Minister and national women leader for the party, Kema Chikwe was replaced with with Oyibo Nwaneri.
The appointees are all in acting capacity.
A special convention of the party is slated for July 15 where proper elections will be conducted to fill in the more than 16 vacant positions.
The convention committee is headed by former information minister, Prof. Jerry Gana, who is to be assisted by Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state with deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu as the secretary.
