Football legends, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Ghana’s Abedi Pele and Abdullahi Traore are among the ex-players who are billed to play an exhibition match against former Super Eagles players to kick cancer out of Nigeria.
Disclosing this at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, Chairman of the technical sub-committee of the soccer event, Jacob Onu said the novelty match would hold in Abuja in the first week of December this year.
The match, tagged “soccer legends against cancer”, has received the blessing of both local and international partners, including the federal ministry of health, the Nigeria Football Federation, US African Chamber of Commerce, NEPAD Business Group and Mary Onyali Foundation among others.
While expressing confidence for the success of the event, Onu assured that all the foreign ex-internationals invited have agreed to honour the invitation.
At the briefing, the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya; Chairman of the event’s organising committee Prof. Durosinmi-Etti and representatives of other partners spoke on the need for collaboration to eliminate cancer from the country.
