Boko Haram: 900 Corpers Opt Out Of Kano, Niger
Following the directive from the National headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to redeploy any any corps member seeking transfer, 900 corps members have so far been redeployed from Kano and Niger states.
The coordinator of the scheme in Kano State, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai, revealed that 800 corps members were redeployed out of the 2, 129 posted to the state while Mrs Justina Andriya, Niger State Coordinator of the scheme confirmed that 100 married female corps members sought redeployment from the state to their husbands’ states of residence.
P.M.NEWS also gathered that over 90 percent of the redeployed corps members in Kano were from
the southern part of the country.
They cited security challenges as reasons for their request.
Speaking shortly after the Passing-out Parade of Batch ‘C’ corps members in Kano, Alhaji Yakasai claimed further that some of those redeployed are contemplating of cancelling their redeployment.
“As at now, about 800 corps members have been redeployed out of 2,129 posted to the state. The doors are still open to whoever wishes to be redeployed for one reason or the other. This is in line with the NYSC guideline,” he affirmed.
Yakassai stated that no corps members would be posted to banks or companies they perceive to be lucrative, “instead, they would be posted to rural areas where their services are mostly required, especially in agriculture, health ,education sectors while the married ones would serve in the state capital.”
The state deputy governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who represented the state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, at the parade, urged corps members to always be ready to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the nation.
Dr. Kwankwaso appealed to corps members to forget the era of white-collar jobs and face the challenges of the global economic recession. He stressed the need for them to be self-reliant.
In Niger State, Mrs. Andriya confirmed that 100 married female corps members sought re-deployment to their husbands’ states of residence.
She announced this at the completion of the NYSC orientation for batch C in Paiko camp, Niger, adding that the directorate also received applications for redeployment on medical grounds.
She said that most of the corps members were deployed to their various places of primary assignment in keeping with its tradition, adding that educational institutions received the highest number of the deployed corps members.
Andriya commended the state government for its assistance to the corps members in terms of logistic support to ensure the success of the orientation.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Daniel Shashere, called on the corps members to embark on community development projects that could impact positively on the life of the people.
He said it was necessary because majority of the population of the state lived in the rural areas.
