Man arrested for attempting to bomb Ekiti State Government House



A middle age man was Wednesday arrested in Ado Ekiti by the police for an attempted bid to bomb Government House, the official residence of the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
The incidence happened barely twenty four hours to the judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which is expected to deliver judgement on the case instituted by the former governor of the state, Engr Segun Oni, challenging his removal from office and subsequent declaration of Governor Kayode Fayemi as the validly elected Governor in the 2007 and 2009 elections in the state.
The alleged bomber was said to have been conveyed to the spot by a man on motorbike who was said to have escaped arrest as soon as the suspected criminal alighted in-front of the main gate of the Government’s House.
The alleged bomber who was seen making frantic bid to contact some people through telephone calls, a development that gave room for suspicion that he is having a sinister motive.
While busied himself with phone calls, a civil servant named Johnson, was said to have accosted him and queried his mission in that protected region , which is about six poles to the Governor’s Lodge
The civil servant, Vanguard further gathered quickly alerted the security personnel detailed at the main gate of the Government’s House , who responded swiftly and dispossessed the suspect of some of his personal belongings.
Some of the substance found with the suspect include explosive devise and other dangerous weapons like charms, knives and other lethal tools.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Victor Olu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, he, however said no explosive material or bomb was found on him
His words “Somebody was just trying to draw attention to himself. No bomb or explosive material was found on him.
” He only behaved curiously and that caused the suspicion that made people to raise the alarm because he exhibited a conduct likely to cause the breach of public peace”
According to the police image maker, the suspect is being detained at the State Police headquarters as investigations about his motive, is still ongoing.
Reacting to the incidence, the state commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Funminiyi Afuye said the police has taken over the matter, adding that investigation by the police would reveal motive behind the intention of the alleged bomber.
Meanwhile, there was a strong anxiety among the members of the Action Congress of Nigeria and their counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party , as the Apex Court will tomorrow deliver judgement on the suit filed by former Governor Segun Oni, seeking the retrial of the case filed by Fayemi against his election, culminating in Oni’s ouster from office on October 15, 2010.
In his statement of claim, Oni is claiming that the suspended Chairman of the Appeal Court, Justice Isa Ayo Salami , was not fit to Chair the Appeal Panel in Ilorin that nullified his election on the strength of alleged conviviality with some top members of the ACN.
