Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan, may have embarked on another medical trip to Germany.
A report by an online news portal, Sahara Reporters, on Saturday quoted
two presidential sources as saying the First Lady was flown out of the
country discreetly.
One source, the medium claimed, disclosed that
Mrs. Jonathan had kept a low profile several weeks before her movement
to a German hospital.
“She has not been in good health for a while now,” a source close to the Jonathan family reportedly said.
After a medical trip in 2013, which her spokesman denied, Patience
later returned to the country to admit that she went to a German
hospital for treatment.
The agency also quoted another source as
saying, “Nigerians are paying for her treatment and deserve the courtesy
of being informed about her movement.”
The Presidency, however, denied the report.
The First Lady’s spokesman, Mrs. Ayotunde Adesugba, told SUNDAY PUNCH on the telephone that there was no truth in the report.
Adesugba said she left the President’s wife in the Presidential Villa a
few minutes before speaking with our correspondent at around 9pm on
Saturday.
“There is no truth in the report. I just left her in the office now,” she said.
Mrs. Jonathan had on Wednesday played host to the Chief Executive
Officer of Water and Sanitation for Africa, Mr. Idrissa Doucoure, who
sought her support on ways to improve sanitation on the continent on
behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water
and Sanitation.
She received the guest at the conference hall of her office inside the State House.
Before receiving the UN delegation on Wednesday, she had also played
host to some women from one of the South-South states earlier in the
week.
Also, the President’s wife accompanied her husband to the
inauguration of the Wuye Ultra-Modern Market, in Wuye District of the
Federal Capital Territory penultimate Thursday.
